Important
Beware of Frost & Slippery Surfaces
When temperatures are near or below freezing, extra caution is required. Slippery surfaces can reduce traction, potentially causing emergency stops or sliding – especially on stairs. Avoid snow and ice whenever possible. If travel is unavoidable, reduce your speed and remain vigilant at all times.
Our tip: Set the tire pressure of your BRO to our minimum recommended value of min. 1.5 bar / 22 PSI to achieve maximum driving comfort and the best possible traction.
Important
Adjust Driving Speed
For your own safety, you should maintain a moderate driving speed during winter and avoid abrupt braking to minimize the risk of slipping.
Our tip: Disable the "Fast Brake" function in the BRO app to reduce slipping hazards. Additionally, you can lower the turning speed to ensure smoother and more controlled driving.
Important
Battery Protection
Do not leave your BRO exposed to the cold for extended periods, such as in a car or outdoors. Subzero temperatures can cause the battery to freeze over time, rendering the driving mode unusable until the battery has completely thawed.
Our tip: Always store your BRO in a warm, sheltered location, away from the elements, to ensure it’s ready to use whenever needed.
Important
Protection from Moisture
Keep your BRO safe from moisture such as rain, snow, or splashes. Avoid deep water, such as puddles that reach the bottom of the tracks, as this could damage the electronics and cause the wheelchair to stop unexpectedly.
Our tip: Protect the control console during rain with a simple, waterproof plastic cover designed specifically for wheelchair controls. Replace any significant damage to the casing promptly to prevent further issues.
Important
Driving in Low Light & Darkness
The short winter days often come with reduced visibility. Darkness and challenging weather conditions can make obstacles like bumps or holes harder to spot.
Our tip: Always turn on your BRO’s lights during dusk or darkness so that other road users can see you. Adjust your speed to match the conditions for added safety.
Important
Climbing Stairs in Winter
Avoid stairs and surfaces where you’re unsure if the tracks have enough traction for safe climbing (risk of slipping). Wet, snowy, or icy stairs should not be used under any circumstances. Additionally, do not use stairs if the tracks are wet or dirty (e.g., after driving in rain or snow) until they have been dried thoroughly.
Important
Dress Warm & Weatherproof
Remember to keep not just your trusty companion but also yourselves warm and weatherproof! To stay comfortable on chilly winter days, we recommend the "onion look" – multiple layers of clothing that allow you to adapt flexibly to changing temperatures.
Our tip: Consider an electric heating pad, which you can easily order online and connect via the USB-A port in BRO's valuables pouch. Make sure that the power consumption is no higher than 10 watts.
